SAXOPHONE TEACHERS

I've been teaching the saxophone for almost 5 years now, since I was 17. I started teaching at the Yamaha School of Music in town. I was fairly established on the saxophone by then and I was having some piano lessons at the Yamaha. My piano teacher - who became a great friend - asked me if I wanted to join the crew at the Yamaha, teaching the sax. I was delighted to teach there. I've come a long way since I gave those first lessons. When the Yamaha School had to close down due to the cost of renting a property in the city centre, I then secured a post teaching the sax, and later also the flute, at Penny Lane School of Music in Aigburth and I've been there ever since. I'm one of a bunch of music teachers renting the rooms in Dovedale Church. It's a lovely place with a warm, cheery atmosphere and all the teachers know all the students regardless of which instrument they're learning. I even do a little bit of accompaniment for exams and beginner's piano and voice at Dovedale.

For the past 3 years I've also been teaching in student's homes throughout Merseyside.I enjoy teaching a balance of adults and children and teaching at a mixture of musical levels. Most of my current students have been with me for a number of years. I've become part of their family and they've become part of mine. I also teach one day a week at a mainstream school in Southport. There I teach the saxophone, flute and recorder.

In my lessons I encourage you,or your child, to play with spontaneity and creativity alongside progressing across the graded stepping stones of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I can teach you, or them, to play by ear as well as read music, understand music theory, improvise, compose your own music and develop your own style, whether you like Jazz, Classical, Rock, Rhythm and Blues or Contemporary Music. Whether you choose to take the ABRSM exams or not you\'ll be very pleased with the progress you make and the skills and professionalism you acquire.
